TIMOR BLACK
ORNAMENTAL BLACK / BROWN BAMBOO
(Bambusa lako)
Timor Black is a large ornamental bamboo featuring shiny dark brown/black culms and bushy dark green foliage. Timor Black will naturally grow up to 10-12 metres in height and can be trimmed down in height if need be (read maintenance tips here).

It has upright culms with a curl shape at the top and minimal branching down low. The natural footprint size of the clump is 2mtrs however this wonderful species can be planted into narrow garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of 1mtr. Plant as a single feature or light screening solution. Black bamboo send up their new shoots green and they transition to black over 6-9 months. Eventually the black culms will fade to a white/grey as they die off. Remove these culms from the clump to freshen up the appearance and encourage new shoots.
Clumping bamboo grow circular, so plant them the same distance apart as the width you have available. Eg. if your planting trench is 1.2mtrs wide, you would plant them 1.2mtrs apart to form a dense screen. The narrower the space, the closer you plant the bamboo together.
Timor Black is slower growing then the majority of bamboo, but can still be fully grown in 3-4 years if established well. Or achieve quicker growth if you purchase more established sizes!

The approximate size of bamboo is only a guide. Plant measurements are taken from the bottom of the pot.
The sizing of plants does vary, particularly through different seasons of the year.
The most valuable part of the bamboo is the rootball size within the pots, which produces incredibly fast growth once planted.
